We made this Winemaker's Reserve Aglianico bold red wine from the Aglianico grapes sourced from the Oswald Vineyard near Brownfield, Texas in the Texas High Plains AVA. It is enchanting bold red wine.
Aglianico is an ancient grape variety, perhaps the oldest being made into wine. It came to Italy from Greece before the first century AD. Commented on by Pliny the Elder of Roman times, it may be the wine enjoyed by the rulers and citizens of Rome and the Roman solders. Its traditional home is Southern Italy where it grows nearby to a local volcano in the Basilicata region. However, we source our Aglianico grapes from the Oswald Vineyard in the High Plains of Texas, near Brownfield. Which, by the way, is not unlike a volcano, if you've ever been to Texas!
